My in-laws are in the process of gutting and updating an old house. While we were walking through it with them last week to admire their plans and progress, they commented they were replacing all of the windows in the house with vinyl ones.
Having no use for them, they were just going to throw away the old windows.
And you'd better believe I jumped on that train!
Their new windows arrived today, so my "shipment" did, too.
I'm so excited! There are ten total, and while I have some ideas to do with some of these beauties, I'm not really set yet on what to do with ten.
I'm going to be gone for a couple of weeks to visit family in Michigan...

...and since I'm not a big-time blog or anything, (not to mention proactive this week...)
...the posting may be a little thinner for a bit. But I'm still here for now, and I've got some things ready to go, not to mention things to post when I get back!

My mom used an old window to make a mirror in our dining room. She painted the frame and replaced the glass with a mirror, then hung it sideways on the wall, and out from it a little. It looks really good! i can get you a picture if you'd like.

Wow! What fun. My mom-in-law did some amazing things with old windows. 1. A table top. 2.Vinal lettering quote on the window. 3. Displayed an old fashioned baby dress behind one. 4. A fake stained glass window on the wall.
5. (My favorite) she hung family pictures behind each pane and then added hooks at the bottom for a fancy coat or decor hanger. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
What a treasure trove you have scored! So many things you can do with the windows.
One of my all time favorite things I did with an old window was to use it as a fireplace screen. (Might not be a good idea with a wood burning fireplace. A gas fireplace is safer, or you could just use when there wasn't a fire.)
I'd use that window in the position you have it now, that is propped up against the tree. Add decorative wood corbels for legs to the bottom on the front side, using one of the flat parts secured to the window and the other flat part to go on the floor. Like in this picture only turned upside down.

I also have some frames to do something with. I'm super excited!! I was thinking of finding some of that metal stuff people use for crafting. Its kind of a glazed silver stuff. I hope you know what I am talking about. Anyways, I was going to put it behind each pain, and use it as a magnet board somewhere in my house to hang pictures and other such cute stuff. I have a cute way to make homemade magnets if your interested. I can't wait to see what you decide to do.
My aunt made a spooky window once complete with painted spider web and spider.
LOVE the family picture idea from previous comment. If you do that can you please, please, PLEASE post a tutorial. And maybe in about two years I'll get around to being crafty again. Just wondering. :)
I have seen some cute things made with old windows as well...the vinyl lettering is always cute, and a dried wildflower arrangement and she stuck in between the two panes somehow.
