Cheater, Cheater, Pumpkin Eater

Yeah, you guessed it. We're big, fat, ice cream lovin' CHEATERS!

It's all thanks to the 4th, naturally. We found ourselves at home Friday morning with nothing planned to do... So we packed a picnic and drove to Downata Hot Springs...the FUNNEST place EVER! I had been itching to move on to phase two of the diet a little early... (technically, we should have waited until Tuesday)... so we packed our chicken salad into whole wheat pita pocket bread, and headed for the hills. However, since we were cheating, we also took along some apples, and some pita chips. Not so bad, all phase 2-appropriate foods. However, once we were done swimming, we bought ice cream cones. And, since we were already cheating, we had waffles for breakfast Saturday morning, complete with maple-flavored high-fructose corn syrup. Then we had our dear friends the Tonks family visit Saturday for dinner, so we had some whole grain rice pilaf, a London Broil steak marinated in a BBQ type sauce blend, corn on the cob, and a gigantic fruit salad. Dessert that night was waffle ice cream sundaes, complete with cool whip, hot fudge, chocolate chips, M&Ms, marshmallows, and sweetened coconut. Sunday we had potatoes, grilled chicken, more fruit salad, and lemonade. It was awful. And since we've now undone all of our efforts from the last week, we haven't been following the diet at all, with the plan to start anew once we've eaten all of the bad things out of the fridge. Of course. We wouldn't want them to rot and just go to waste, would we? With this service in mind, I've been choking down ice cream every day this week. Just awful, I tell you.

As a reminder, a few of the things we're supposed to entirely avoid during this part of the diet are: ALL grains, ALL fruits, ALL sugars, and ALL starches (including potatoes, carrots, and corn). Before I started to gain it all back, I had lost 12 pounds (in 10 days), and I've now gained all but 4 of those back.

Moral of the story: The diet works, but only if you work. Seriously. No cheating. I mean, a little cheating here and there never hurt anybody, but just make sure you really have control when you start to cheat. RECAP: Don't be like me. Just don't do it. : )

I can feel myself getting fatter after just reading about our badness over the weekend.

Oh, but that dinner was SO GOOD! It was worth cheating for, wasn't it? ;)

Screw the diet! Enjoy life and eat it up!!! The 4th totally hosed my eating plans, I am now on a nasty craving spree of anything fat and sugar! Sounds like you had a good dinner for sure!!!

I'm so glad that you had a great weekend and enjoyed every bite of it!! That's so fun that you are able to hang out with the Tonks family. We get to see Mike and Lauralee Flores next weekend in Rexburg so that will be fun. It's always fun to catch up with old college buddies!

So, that's funny but sad for you, two steps forward one step back isn't really fun, but at least you know the weight loss is possible! Good luck! Love, Kalia

Ice cream is and will always be an appropriate violation of diet policy. I'd just as soon deny myself oxygen. :)

Amen, Angie!

Super Angie is super awesome and my heart super loves her and her super wisdom. And I couldn't agree more with the likening of ice cream and oxygen to the quality of life.
